The hotly debated
practice of breastfeeding beyond
infancy has earned itself a close-up investigation as part of a new reality
television show. Extreme Parenting will look at a range of America's kookiest
parenting rituals, shedding a spotlight further on the much-hyped arguments for
and against weaning your child after the age of one.
Jeff Collins, president of Collins Avenue Productions,
who is developing the show told Yahoo! Shine: 'That cover proves what I've been saying for
the last year - America has become a country of extremes.
While celebrities like Alanis Morrisette and
Blossom actress Mayim Bialik have spoken out in defense of attachment
parenting, opponents feel just as strongly that a child who still latches as a
toddler is not learning independence and that the relationship between the
couple can suffer. While touching upon these issues through its
characters, the show will also explore beyond the attachment parenting
technique.
'Breastfeeding
beyond infancy is just one of the topics we plan to cover,' Mr Collins explained.
'We've discovered people are raising kids in all kinds of un-traditional ways
these days and some people find their methods to be extreme.'
